On May 11, 2025, members of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) took important steps to strengthen connections between the hospitality industry and elected leaders. Greater Los Angeles Area Regional Director Naresh (ND) Bhakta and AAHOA Government Affairs Committee member GJ Zala met with Congressman Lou Correa (D-CA) to discuss key issues affecting hotel owners and the hospitality community.
Focusing on Legislative Support
During their conversation, the group focused on the Loans In Our Neighborhoods (LIONs) Act, a federal initiative aimed at improving access to small business capital in local communities. The LIONs Act is seen as a potential way to help hospitality businesses — especially small and family-owned hotels — secure the financial support they need to grow and thrive.
Congressman Correa demonstrated a strong understanding of the challenges hoteliers face, showing his commitment to advocating for the interests of the hospitality industry in Congress. His engagement underscored the importance of building bridges between policymakers and business owners in order to shape policies that support small business growth and community development.
Why This Matters
This meeting highlights AAHOA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen industry advocacy and foster meaningful relationships with lawmakers. By engaging directly with elected officials like Congressman Correa, the association ensures that the voices of hotel owners are included in national policy conversations.
AAHOA continues to work with local, state, and federal leaders to promote policies that support economic resilience and opportunity for America’s hoteliers. As these relationships grow, they help build a stronger, more informed hospitality community that can better navigate challenges and seize opportunities ahead.
